Understanding Perimenopause
Perimenopause is a natural transitional period leading up to menopause. During this time, fluctuating hormone levels can significantly impact your emotional and physical wellbeing.
It’s common to experience changes in mood, increased anxiety, sleep disturbances, brain fog, fatigue, physical changes and a sense of really feeling unlike yourself.
What is often less understood is the role stress plays during this time. Many women are already living with high levels of ongoing stress, and as hormones begin to fluctuate, the body can become even more sensitive to stress.
When the body is under ongoing stress it produces more cortisol, which can further disrupt hormonal balance particularly progesterone, a hormone that supports calm and emotional stability. This can intensify symptoms such as anxiety, overwhelm, poor sleep and fatigue.
Understanding both your hormonal changes and your stress response is a powerful first step toward finding balance and feeling more like yourself again.

Your Questions Answered
What is perimenopause, and how do I know if I'm in it?
Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause. It can start in your 40s (or earlier) and is marked by fluctuating hormone levels that can cause a wide range of mood-related and physical symptoms, like anxiety, brain fog, hot flushes and sleep disturbances to name a few.
Many women begin to recognise perimenopause through the changes they’re experiencing in their bodies and emotions. However, as some symptoms can overlap with other health conditions, it’s important to seek guidance from a qualified medical professional if you have any concerns about your health. I do not diagnose medical conditions.
How can therapy help with perimenopause symptoms?
While hormones certainly play a role, therapies like EFT, hypnotherapy and belief coding work with the subconscious and nervous system to process the emotional toll of this transition. Beyond easing the stress response, they support the release of held emotional patterns, help rewire unhelpful beliefs, and create space for a greater sense of calm, clarity, self-acceptence and a deeper sense of trust in yourself.
Alongside this, a counselling approach allows us to explore your experience in a way that feels right for you, drawing on different couselling approaches to support your emotional wellbeing. Support for mental and emotional health is becoming an increasingly important part of peri and menopause care, with talking therapies such as CBT recognised within mainstream healthcare, including the NHS, for their role in supporting anxiety, stress, and low mood.
I feel like I'm losing my mind, is this normal?
It’s incredibly common to feel disoriented, irritable, or unusually anxious during perimenopause. Many women describe a sense of not feeling like themselves, which can feel unsettling and at times overwhelming.
You’re not losing your mind, your body and nervous system are responding to a significant hormonal and physiological shift.
Therapy offers a calm, supportive space to make sense of what you’re experiencing. Together, we can gently explore these changes, validate how you’re feeling, and find ways to support you, helping you feel more steady, reassured, and like yourself again.
How will we work together?
My approach is integrative and tailored to you. Rather than following a fixed structure, I work with you to understand what you need and what feels most supportive at each stage of your journey.
Drawing on counselling, EFT (Tapping), hypnotherapy, and belief coding, we choose the approach that best fits you, allowing space for reflection, emotional processing, and deeper subconscious work where appropriate.
This means our work together evolves over time, creating a therapeutic experience that feels supportive, responsive, and aligned with where you are.
You don’t need to know which approach is “right” for you, that’s something we’ll explore together.
